Depression is a state of mind. People become depressed over anything like a death from a very closed loved one, physical or mental abuse even school stress. Many people have been drepressed over school stress because they feel that they are held to a standered that they can not reach. It depends on the person to see if people can control their depression. Some people can, most people in that matter, but their are some people who can't control it. And that doesn't mean that they only self harm, they can also just be quiet or be really mean to others. No one will truly know if the other person is being foreal about being depressed or not but for the people who are not pretending it's not an excuse and it's very frustrating when people say they depression is just an excuse. It's frustrating because we are going through real life problems, most of the time it's not just school, or school at all, and when people say that they are using depression for an excuse to be lazy we get mad, maybe not say anything but that's just a frustrating question or comment, just stick to "are you ok?" In privet , don't be yelling it from across the room

Depression is a disease! My grandma fought depression for years. She tried to overcome it, but it was too difficult for her. Depression is not an excuse, it is an illness that people can not control. Trying to convince someone to stop being depressed is a challenge. You can try to show them the brighter side of life, but that doesn't always work. My grandma became depressed when she got hurt at work and was not able to work anymore. She was used to working all the time and being around her friends. She started getting really quiet and wouldn't talk. At first, we didn't understand what was wrong with her. But, then after awhile, we started to understand what was going on. My grandma just couldn't be happy, no matter what we did. She started to cut herself and just wanted to die! We were heartbroken and did not know how to help her. Finally, my grandma's depression got so bad that my grandpa had to take her to Charters Hospital. This place was horrible especially for someone that you love so much! As the days went by though, she started to get better. She got the counseling that she needed. We just couldn't help her alone!! So you see, depression is not anyone's fault nor is it an excuse. It is something very serious and people need to know about it.

I think depression is when you start to lose control over the way your conscious works , it's almost like a switch of default settings. In most cases depression comes after superfluous situations of sadness , stress and hardship etc hit a person. In some cases it may only take a single event like going home to find you're whole family murdered or something which is unfortunate or more realistically rape and abuse. A person can try focusing on positive things and sometimes it helps but I feel like most people do that on the daily and if it's not working it just isn't going to and it's understandable . Sometimes your body just needs some lithium or you're just incapable of producing endorphins , dopamine etc to be happy and in other cases a person does just choose to sulk as part of the process. Some people will use it as an excuse but not everyone does and I think with things as delicate as depression the benefit of the doubt is the best route to go. Some people will use it just for attention and people are so quick to hate people, for openly saying they're depressed but whether a person is depressed or not if they're asking for attention maybe there is underlying reasons as to,why they're looking for it . A suicidal kid, might post about how they're gonna go attempt it and people will harass them saying they just want attention and they deserve to die etc but maybe they were looking for, attention but because they were hoping someone might stop them

Depression a common and serious medical illness that negatively affects how you feel, the way you think and how you act. Things like stress, using alcohol or drugs, and hormone changes also affect the brain's delicate chemistry and mood. People may control their depression by “looking on the bright side of things” or “working harder at being happy, but that's not the best way to solve it. Sometime, it is an excuse. If the depression is from family like someone died who is your closest member of your family. You would feel super bad and even cause you couldn't do anything.

Depression is a mood disorder. It can cause severe symptoms on how you do daily activities. Depression does not just come easily and go easily. It lasts a long time and puts you in a dark place. It is very common in the US and it is treatable with medication. People can not just look on the bright side or working harder on being happy. Depression is not just being sad for a little while is it a mental disorder. You get in a state of mind that you can't get out of. You may feel suicidal or alienate yourself from others. Being depressed is sometimes used incorrectly, people may not have it but think they do or it can be the other way around. Depression if used correctly can be a legit excuse. This puts people in a persistent sad mood and they may not want to do anything or interact with others. Inn society people think this is not a real disorder and they shame some for saying they have it. It is a real thing that can make you feel less than.

Depression is a major psychological problem. It happens when your mind can't create enough of feel good chemicals to counter act the bad. This is why people with depression most likely have anxiety. Being depressed isn't just an excuse. The ability to, "Look on the bright side." is very difficult for people with depression. Their minds get clouded over with self doubt and hatred on what they have become. "Working harder to be happy" is also not easy. The receptors in their brains don't... Work properly. When people have these psychological illnesses have gaps in reseptors. These gaps cause the feel good chemicals to either not reach the target or enter too much. This is the same with anxiety. The mind of the person who has it is full of gaps, making chemicals not reach their destination. These gaps are what make people feel depressed, feel anxious around everyday things, and super happy when they do something terrible. Having an illness like this should not be an excuse. It is in fact a very serious issue that people shouldn't just brush aside.

Depression is a brain disorder characterized with depressed or sad moods and loss of interest in an activity. You can overcome depression but it isn't fast and easy. You can't just snap out of it you need to take control of it. Some health conditions can cause depression like symptoms. Stress and drinking and doing drugs can slow the process of the feel good chemicals in you brain. Depression is a serious problem no one should think it is just an excuse to not do something.

According to the internet, depression is "a brain disorder characterized by persistently depressed mood or loss of interest in activities, causing significant impairment in daily life." The internet also says that "possible causes include a combination of biological, psychological, and social sources of distress and increasingly, research suggests these factors may cause problems in brain function, including abnormal activity of certain neural circuits in the brain." Let's get over with the more unfortunate situations, there are some who use depression as an excuse. They end up abusing the circumstances that come with depression, which in turn allows them to manipulate others to work around their wants. Medical solutions for depression include therapies, medications, and in extreme cases, medical procedures. But I can understand that psychological solutions may include "looking on the brighter side" and "working hard to be happy." It all depends on the person and how they understand their needs.

Depression is a brain disorder characterized by persistently depressed mood or loss of interest in activities, causing significant impairment in daily life. People become depressed due to many reasons. Some get depressed due to stress, substance abuse, and hormonal changes. If people work hard to be happy they may pretend to be happy but deep down inside they're not. In some cases if they work on it they can be happy. I feel like sometimes people say they're depressed but they're really not. Some people when they feel down they say they're depressed but they are sad. Most people that are depressed take medication but i feel like this just makes it worse because then they depend on the medicine. A lot of people become dependent on anti depressants. I think that if someone does take medicine because of depression that they should only take it when it's really bad.

Depression is a brain disoreder that makes people constantly depressed for no reason at all. this causes a significant turn down towards friends, sports, and many other things which will lead to more depression because you cant do the things that you love. people take medicine for depression but honestly it doesn't even work because the medicine will become addictive and your just going to end up as a crack head weirdo fending for drugs

Depression is a brain disorder that makes people depressed for no reason. I personally lost my great grandma in 2014 and my life hasn't been the same. Depression is like a broke leg you cant control when it hurts or not. I think at some point depression hits everyone so I wouldn't call it an excuse

Depression is a feeling of despondency and dejection. People get depressed for various reasons, could be because of a sad event. Yes, a better take on it would be make yourself busy; because if you're too busy you wont have time to be depressed. Some people use it as a excuse to get people to do their bidding, i know a couple girls who use depression as an excuse to go do drugs and jack up peoples lives while trying to keep them in it. but they are just 2 faced, they have said themselves they are not depressed. Depression is a very really state of the mind however mourning about something frivolous for repetitive days and months and years on end is just a sign of something far less. some people just mourn to mourn and not do anything. and some do have actual reason to be depressed like their spouse dying would be something probable, but breaking up with someone you've been dating for 4 months is not a reason to be depressed for the next 4 years of your life.

Depression is a mental health disorder which causes a person to be more reserved and not want to participate in activities. All these factors affect the persons daily life and makes them more prone to illness. People become depressed because of multiple types of stress. Some people become depressed because of school stress or because of the stress that follows the death of a loved one or beloved family pet. I think people can get better by looking at the brighter side of things, because personally I think you get depression by how you look at things. Take people who get out of relationships some live on normally a little sad but nothing out of the ordinary. But others take it much harder and become depressed. Being depressed could be an excuse depending on why they are depressed. If it’s something minor it’s an excuse but something major is more understandable.

There are two types of depression the depression that is a feeling and the depression that is a mental illness. I think people become depressed because their body isn’t producing enough serotonin. This may be caused by outside forces like the death of a loved one or it might just be something you are born with. I don’t think a depressed person can really look on the bright side. They tend to always view things negatively. I think that telling them to look on the bright side is minimalizing their depression. Depression is a crushing mental illness. Being depressed is definitely an excuse. It is important for a person to focus on their personal mental health. Culturally depression varies. Some cultures view it as a non existent thing. Some cultures sweep it under the rug and others do try to solve it. Psychologically depression destroys a persons social life and strips them away from their happiness. Things that they used to enjoy slowly become less fulfilling and they tend to starve for something to fill them up. This may cause them to turn to drugs to feel something other than the feelings of numbness.

Depression is a mental illness that negatively effects how you feel emotionally. It causes feelings of sadness or lack of interest in an activity or maybe a task. This illness can effect appetite which can lead to weight loss or excessive amounts of eating in a diet. It can also lead to thoughts of suicide or death. A person can become depressed for many reasons. It can be over a breakup in a relationship, a sense of giving up in life, knowing that no one wants them around, family issues, relationship issues, and etc. You can conquer depression by knowing that you don't have to be that way, stop being weak, pathetic, and start taking charge in your life. It's like having a screw you mentality to your negative emotions, this is my life and I won't let some stupid mental illness control it. I see people who struggle with depression, and they need someone in his/her to influence them to overcome that negative mindset and illness. In the United States, we live in a nation full of diverse cultures, some cultures can effect the human emtionally positive or negative. When it comes to bad habits that can effect your mood or mentality, you possibly get depressed. When you don't have a right diet to an extent where your body starts to have an imbalance, this starts a mood shift. I think psychological changes happens in society depending who you base your influence on. If you have an influence that leads toward a negative or sad perspective on life, that can also lead to depression. So yea, I think depression comes to you because you're the one who decided to have that waste of time in your life but either way, it is still a mental illness.

Depression is a type of mental illness that effects your emotional health negatively and can also effect your physical health negatively. Depression can be caused by million and millions of things. For some people it’s a chemical imbalance, some have trauma they deal with that can cause depression, it can be caused by stress, etc. I don’t think depression can be controlled by yourself I think you need help around and recourses aroun to help control it. Even with medication depression isn’t easy to control. Not everybody has the privilege of just making themselves happy when they want, and it’s not like people with depression are never happy and never smile. I do believe some people can work towards being happier because that’s what overcoming depression is; you’re working towards being happier but sometimes it can take longer than expected. There are days where you do have to take a mental health day and take care of yourself and sometimes it just doesn’t let you get any work done but its not being used as an excuse because it’s the truth. Imagine if you told someone with disease that they were using their disease as a way to avoid responsibilities, in some ways that’s similar to telling someone with depression that they’re using that illness as an excuse. I do have to point out though that some people make up having depression and do actually use it as an excuse and that, to me, is nasty. Depression can’t be overcome without the help of others. For some it’s an easy thing to get over and for others it’s the worst battle of their lives I just think it takes time to heal.

People become depressed because of an event that led them to be sad. A lot of times this is a death, or a traumatic event. Depression is a mental illness and cannot be cured as easily as just being happy. Depression is often overlooked nd the main way it can be cured is a therapist and some people take medicine. However, some can overcome it by enjoying life more but it takes more time than just being sad.

Depression is a mental illness that lowers a persons mood. They could feel depressed from trauma that they had when they were a kid, It cannot be cured so some people deal with it and try to fight it but most of the time some people take the easy way out. Depression is definitely overlooked and a little bit of people say that it can be cured by going to a therapist or medicine that just makes you tired. So, I think some people can fight it by enjoying life or talking to someone about why they're so sad instead of bottling it up cause I believe talking to someone could help because then you're just relieved that someone actually took there time to stop what they're doing and to just listen.

depression is something that is very real but often gets looked down upon. It a crippling feeling that just cant seem to go away. Its suffocating and exhausting. The cause of depression is cause by many things and sometimes it just sneaks up on you and attacks when you're at your worst. Your mind is a very powerful thing and i believe that anyone can come out of depression if you put your mind to it but its really not that easy. the thing about depression is it keeps getting worse over tie and sometimes you don't even notice it because it comes in many forms. Many think that we use "depression" as an excuse but its not an excuse its a cry for help. Depression should never looked down upon because you never know what depression can lead a person to do. the feeling of not wanting to wake up anymore is a very real thing that so much people go through everyday. It can be masked very easily so check up on your loved ones.

Depression is a dissapointingly re-occuring mental health problem. The medical definition for depression is a mental health disorder characterized by persistently depressed mood or loss of interest in activities, causing significant impairment in daily life. I don't think depression is necessarily a mental illness but instead a mental state. I think that depression is reached and achieved due to external issues and problems. Honestly I wouldn't know the "solution" to depression. Its easy to say that you should just simply have a more positive outlook on things in life, but realistically its hard to think that way when you are depressed. You can try your hardest to do it and even do it for a little while but those thoughts and feelings are inevitably going to seep through again. I don't think that depression is an excuse at all. However i think it COULD be used as an excuse for lacking behavior. I think that even while depressed there is some level of basic responsibility and capability to do some things. This depression is a result of many different reasons. There's anxiety to do different things. There's also the need to feel like you belong. The need to feel that you have a purpose. The need for real connection to people. And even the need to feel seen. No one wants to feel invisible.

Depression is a mental illness that comes with emotional dejections, withdrawals, and sadness that is prolonged than that warranted by any objective reason. People with this mental illness can go into depressive episode based on what triggers it. People become depressed when something horrible or stressful happens but it all depends: people have all types of things that happened to them that have caused their depression. Some people can get over depression, while others cannot. We may not know if some people are depressed because they may hide it behind a happy persona or a mean persona. So depression is not excuse it may actually be a cry for a helping hand. Depression should never be looked down upon because you never know what it could lead a person to do. You never know what can happen to a person that is dealing with this feeling. So check up on your family and friends.

Depression is a state of mind where an individual is sad for a long period of time or experiencing a loss of interest in life. Depression is known to be a "mental illness". People can be depressed for all sorts of reasons, but depression usually stems from something tragic/negative. I don't think that people can control their depression by "looking on the brightside" or "working harder to be happy", but I will say that just because people can't control those reasons, doesn't mean that they don't have control over their depression in general. While it is hard to get out of depression, it's important to remind people with depression that they do have control of their thoughts and actions. It will help them understand that they don't have to be how they are right now forever and that they can take the steps to improve and work towards being in a healthy mindset. Being depressed, however, is not an excuse at all. Being depressed explains the way they act, but it doesn't excuse it. Some people with depression are more prone to get angry or violent because they themselves are in a constant state of stress which can be used as an example of why depression explains their actions, but doesn't excuse it. If a person with depression was acting immoral, then they knew exactly what they were doing in that moment because depression is not the same as something like schizophrenia where often times their reality feels altered and they can end up confused (not saying that being schizophrenic is bad or that that’s all there is to it). This of course doesn't mean that everyone who is depressed is a bad person or that they are always prone to acting immoral or having angry outbursts, depression is much deeper than that. Depression is really rough to deal with and it affects people in all sorts of ways. Depression can get so bad in fact, that it can end up looking like other mental illnesses or disorders like ADHD or bipolar. It doesn't help the fact that society isn't very kind to people with these mental illnesses since depression can manifest as not having a will to live or not doing anything with your life (being emotionally numb and losing your purpose). This can result in the person with depression seeming "lazy" despite that not being the case at all. What people with depression need is kindness and support knowing that there are people there for them who are willing to help. Depression easily ruins a person's entire life and everything they've worked for. It's important to have the understanding that you should never let your emotions take control of you whether you have depression or not since it can easily fool you. Depression can create problems in your head without there actually being a problem, and no matter what, support or medication may not always be enough. Being depressed and getting through it is a struggle because even whilst knowing there are people who love you, sometimes it's not always a fight against your depression or the people around you, but yourself. In summary, it's important to teach people with depression how to cope with it and improve themselves and not only have them understand, but other people understand that there is nothing necessarily anything wrong with them. All there is is that they are going through a tough time and that's okay, but it's also okay to put in effort and be open to feel and be loved by others and have that freedom to be happy.

We treat depressive disorders at The Well Woman. Depression can be a symptom or disorder. People often casually describe their mood as “depressed” when it may be mild sadness that quickly goes away or just being in a “funk” that also quickly subsides. Many of us experience an occasional bad day when for no apparent reason we feel glum, irritable, or out of sorts. However, diagnosable or clinical depression lasts for more than a day or two and you do not just bounce back from a glum mood. There is often significant impairment in one’s life as a result of a depressed mood relating to sleep, appetite, thoughts, school or employment, and relationships.
