Create three similes and three metaphors for fear.
Example: Fear is the pulsating darkness of a dilated eye. You will be studying suspenseful mystery and scary stories and poems, some from a genre of macabre.
Macabre: gruesome, ghastly, horrible, haunting; dance with death Life is full of opposites: light/dark, pretty/ugly, good/evil. Art shows the beauty in these contrasts. How is expression (art) more interesting with the ups and downs? How do you balance the good/bad or ups/downs in your own life? Give examples. What do you think happens when we die? Please write 7-10 sentences. Review pg. 10 “My Name” from House on Mango Street. Think about Esperanza’s reactions to her name, and why she chooses another. Think about the importance of a name. Rewrite this chapter so that it is about your name. Mimic Cisneros’ style. Ideas: Where your name came from, what you like/dislike about it, what would you choose for a new name? How others perceive your name. You could use this generator to get you started on your lazy poem.
