You have the opportunity to share what you wrote about on your document if you wish, on this blog page. These quickwrites will help you start thinking about the topic of bullying. Each should be about 7-10+ sentences.
Quickwrite 1 (10 minutes): Have you ever been bullied? What happened? How did you deal with it? What were the consequences? Quickwrite 2 (10 minutes): Have you ever bullied anyone or been an onlooker when bullying was happening? What did you do? Why did you do it? What did the person who was bullied do in response? What happened afterwards? Quickwrite 3: What is your definition of bullying? What questions do you hope to answer in this unit? Dystopian literature is a genre of fictional writing used to explore social and political structures in 'a dark, nightmare world.' The term dystopia is defined as a society characterized by poverty, squalor or oppression and the theme is most commonly used in science fiction and speculative fiction genres.
1. Based on the picture, your prior knowledge, and a quick websearch, what is the difference between a utoptia and a dystopia? 2. What are some potentially negative elements about today's society that you can see taking a turn for the worse? What are the warning signs that are worth some paranoia? What things are happening that we should be concerned about that could destroy our future? 3. Paint the picture of our future society gone wrong. What specific challenges would people face in the future? What would this society look like? What fears, worries, and struggles would be the most fearsome? You can write this like a story or share your overall thoughts. Please write a 15-20 sentence response overall. Please write 15-20 sentences on the questions below.
1. If you committed a serious crime, do you think it would be fair for you to be punished the same way an adult who committed the same crime would be? 2. Who is a juvenile? What are some synonyms for “juvenile”? 3. What are the differences between an adult and a juvenile? Brainstorm a list of qualities that characterize a juvenile but not an adult. E.C. What are the main arguments of this TED Talk? What do you think about these ideas? In 10-15 sentences, write the story of you as a reader. Consider all type of reading material. What do you remember reading as a kid? Who read to you? What do you remember about learning how to read? How did you feel about reading? Has school or home made a bigger influence on you as a reader? What types of reading material do you interact with now? How has this reading helped make you who you are? If you couldn't read, what would your life be like?
