Check out the Intro to Huck Finn on Shmoop and read about it's relevancy and importance. Here are my summary notes of of it's legacy, controversy, themes, unique genre, and satire. Legacy: “All modern American literature comes from one book by Mark Twain called Huckleberry Finn.” ~Ernest Hemingway Controversy: How Twain deals with the slavery issue; “n” word used 215 times Themes: freedom from bondage from: slavery, politics, institutions, religion, biology, psychology, morality, false ideals/realities, group pressures, mobs, prejudice, animal appetite, snobbery, greed, vindictiveness, fear, cruelty Genre: picaresque: humorous adventure in which main character outwits corrupted influences Satire: uses humor, sarcasm, irony to criticize society Mark Twain blew people away with this piece of literature.
