The article you will read today, “Jim Crow Policing” by Bob Herbert, was first published in The New York Times on February 2, 2010. It tries to persuade its readers that law-enforcement agents should not take any action on the basis of race alone. It uses a combination of logic and emotion to achieve its purpose.
Have you ever been stopped by the police because of your appearance? If you have, what was your reaction? If you haven’t, what do you think your reaction would be? Why do you think you would react this way? What do you know about racial profiling? What do you think about it? Do a quick Google search. What articles in the news recently fit this topic and what is the media's commentary on what happened? Write for five minutes, about 10+ sentences. Then comment on someone else's response.

Race is a matter that has been heavily talked about recently. The fact of the matter is that the police have been abusing their power. We need to create a method of regulating the power of policeman. It is unconstitutional for a policeman to simply be suspicious of a man due to his ethnicity. In the constitution the police are to serve as an "unbiased" observer. The police should not have the ability to simply pull someone over because the complexion of their skin. In this day and age I would have thought this issue would've been resolved. Apparently, it has not. Men and woman of different races have been affected by this monstrosity. We need to come together and solve this problem once and for all.,

Usually it can be hard to tell if they have stopped you because of your race but if one were to, I'd remain calm and try not to act suspicious. So if they were to stop me because of my race, they wouldn't have much to arrest me for.

As of right now I have never been stopped by the police because of my appearance. If this were to happen to me I would be very mad and enraged. I would probably start an argument with the officer. A police officer has no right in abusing his power. He should not be able to pass judgement based on race or appearance. I know that racial profiling is being wary of someone due to race. Usually leading someone to discriminate against someone else. Racial profiling is the act of suspecting and targeting a person of a certain race. It is most regarded in the law enforcement of the US. It is being seen today in everyday lives, effecting more lives than it should.

I actually have been called over by a cop when I was walking to a store and I was wearing soccer shorts and a black shirt with some nike sandals. He called me over and he first asked me for my name I said I don’t need to tell you that he said yes you do son because there has recently been a robbery. I said well I am heading to the store so if I did steal why would I be going back to where I stole from. He then started yelling at me saying you fit the description of the person that stole the person wearing black pants and a blue shirt and that he was a Hispanic. So then he asked me to sit down I said I am not gonna do that and i started to walk away. He then yelled at me saying if i keep walking away he is going to put me in the back of his car. I then responded by saying well then looks like your going to have to put me in there. As soon as i said this the person that actually robbed the store was caught I ended up hearing that and I went off on the cop because I heard that the suspect is wearing black pants I was wearing blue shorts. I really only went off for the reason that the description was of a Hispanic male wearing black pants and a blue shirt. I obviously was wearing blue shorts so in my head I instantly knew that he was really only going off the Hispanic part and nothing else. I was absolutely mad that it happened but that’s the world we live in now especially know that Trumps is president I’m not saying it’s his fault but ever since he became president there has been so much more racism happening in the U.S. Racial profiling is

I actually didn't know what racial profiling was until I searched it up. I've seen it happen before but never has it haoppened to me. At least I hope it never will because thats just ridiculous. If I had that happen to me I would have not kept my mouth shut thats for sure. I know that I would have had a temper and things proabaly wouldn't have ended nice. For those who don't know what racial profiling is it is the use of race or ethnicity as grounds for suspecting someone of having commited an offense. I hate the fact that just because you look a certain way or your skin color is a certain way they signify you as that race. To me thats very wrong and offensive, If you are just going to assume I suggest you ask instead. Not because you offened that person but because you just made yourself look stupid and you most likely will feel bad. Maybe that is just me but I sure wouldn't take it in a nice way.

Yes I have been stopped before, not because of my color though, it was because of what I was wearing. I was walking around holding my skateboard in a beanie, baggy shirt, ripped jeans, wallet chain, and skate shoes. A cop decided to come up to me and ask me what I was doing who I am an where I was going, I told him everything and asked why he stopped me. He replied because I looked like I was going to cause trouble, I was honestly mad about his response, I told him that was stupid. He responded with excuse me and I said your stopping me because of the way im dressed, what if the guy over there in a suit is planning to bomb the park right now. You cant come up and harass me because i look different, if you do then do it to everyone you see not just the ones that stand out because most times its the ones that blend in that cause the problems. He responded by apologizing and telling me to have a good day and I walked off.

To be honest race doesn’t matter. We are all living and human beings. Everyone goes through the same stuff as everyone else. No one is better than anyone else. People have different skills and are smarter than others. Someone’s background shouldn’t define how you think of them. The things that happened in the past doesn’t define who they are. The past doesn’t matter what matters is the future and what you do to affect it. There is too much hate and judgement in this world. We all need to change how we see things and how we see people.

Racial profiling is the act of targeting an individual or group based on their race. They have assumptions of how they act or what they will do based on thier race. It is commonly seem in law enforcement when they make assumptions based on someone's race. I don't think this is okay. I agree with Christians reply about race not mattering.

Race doesn't matter, and to be honest it shouldn't matter at all. We all look different even with race but, we shouldn't treat each other different just because of that. In the end we are all the same inside made with the same organs and etc.

I have never been stopped by the police for my race or appearance. If I have I would be absolutely mad and would do something about it. I think racial profiling should be a crime. No police officer should stop a man because of his/her race or appearance. It is not fair for people to be treated this way and it must be stopped.
