The article you will read today, “Jim Crow Policing” by Bob Herbert, was first published in The New York Times on February 2, 2010. It tries to persuade its readers that law-enforcement agents should not take any action on the basis of race alone. It uses a combination of logic and emotion to achieve its purpose.
Have you ever been stopped by the police because of your appearance? If you have, what was your reaction? If you haven’t, what do you think your reaction would be? Why do you think you would react this way? What do you know about racial profiling? What do you think about it? Do a quick Google search. What articles in the news recently fit this topic and what is the media's commentary on what happened? Write for five minutes, about 10+ sentences. Then comment on someone else's response. Think of something you tried to persuade a parent, teacher, or friend to do or believe. It might have been to buy or pay for something, to change a due date or a grade, to change a rule or decision, to go somewhere, or some other issue. Explain the situation.
